This past week I have been dealing with eye issues. My right eye has been really sore and red. Finally yesterday I had had enough and went to Walmart for a complete eye exam. It had been 2.5 years since my last one and I was borderline for bi-focals back then with an a stigmatism in my left eye. Now it is in both eyes along with my distance vision being effected and my close up view is all but shot. The doctor also told me I had the preliminary signs of cataracts. Other then that my eyes were fine. ya right
So I am 41 and this afternoon I will be picking up my glasses which I will have to use all of the time. sigh
I got the no line bi-focals polycabonate lens with the transition gray put in my frames I had. OMG I nearly died at the cost. $300.00 by the time we added in tax.
Does anyone wear bi-focals and how did you help yourself get accustomed to them?
I have been really lucky and have only needed reading glasses thus far. However, now that you mention it, Anthony and I both have eye appointments tomorrow. I've noticed that my vision is getting worse and I'm attributing it to getting older. I'll let you know what they say tomorrow.
Surprisingly I have been getting accustomed to them very easily. I was simply amazed at my lack of not being able to see the tree bark on the trees. I could see the trunk was black or brown but could not make out the detail in the bark unless I was ontop of it.
These three years of constant studying and being at the computer most of the day has really taken a toll on me.
Well Lyn I'm in the same boat as you. Apparently my distance vision has gone down 3 steps in the last year. Sooooo..... Bifocals on their way. I decided to get the progressive ones. Gosh now I'll actually be able to see the signs on the freeway without having to get up close - lol. She said that my right eye has been trying to compensate for my left because it's a little worse. That's why I've felt like there's a film coating my eye and having blurry effects in one eye.
That was the same problem I was having. That film coating feeling was driving me nuts and the pain started in last week really drove me to taking a large amount of Advil. I got the Transitions lens in gray as well. So far I love these things. It is amazing how much my vision was corrected and how long I had gone without realizing how bad they were.
He needed a new perscription as well. I asked him if he wanted contacts but he just doesn't like the idea of putting something into his eye. Can't say that I blame him it would drive me nuts.
I haven't had the pain that you are experiencing. It sounds awful. Maybe I caught it in time before that happens.
I'm taking my perscription to Walmart too because our insurance will only pay for glasses every 2 years. This is only 1 year for me. The place where we normally go is expensive but the insurance usually picks it up. In this case the insurance only picked up Anthony's because it's been 2 years for him. But since you said that it almost cost you $300.00 at Walmart I'm wondering if it won't be just as expensive to have them done at our usual eye place.
No Stacey, not at Walmart. That is where I got my eye exam at, not where I had the script done at. I had that done at C & B Optical because a friend of mine from school works there and cuts the glasses. I trusted him to do them right. I am not sure how much Walmart charges. But I know that they said a week out before I could get mine if they did do them. Whereas, I got them the next day at C & B. I do know that C & B charged me $20. for using my old frames from 2.5 years ago which saved me over $100. for new ones. Call Walmart and find out how much they cost there.
I think I will take the perscription down there and see what the costs are. I'm not sure I want to wait until October for the insurance to kick in again for my perscription.
